Officially Summer!

I can say that because I have my first sunburn of the season. Note to self: when out in the sun for prolonged periods of time and you know you have pale skin that didn't get the ability to tan from the Italian side of the family, bring a hat and loads of sunscreen.

It's after midnight, and I can feel my neck getting that stiff, sunburned feeling. Not to mention the fact that my lips are cracked and sore. It may not be the worst burn I've ever had, but it is a burn. Gah.

I know that I don't tan. I know that the sun hates me. I mean, I'm almost as pale as Brain Guy from MST3K - not Albino white, but pale enough that even a pink flush is noticable.

I'm almost afraid to look in the mirror tomorrow. We shall see what happens.

Yay for summer and vacations.

When You're Awake...

...and you realize you should be in bed even though you aren't completely sure you're ready to bed, there's a problem.

What's even more of a problem is when you realize you're still up because your body is running of two different time zones. I mean, who's brilliant idea was that, to cut up the country into different time zones? I'm an hour ahead on Denver time, and an hour behind on St. Louis time. Blaaah.

Yes, I did just stick my tongue out at the computer screen as I typed that. Thanks for asking.

Sometimes I wonder if I'm developing some sort of mental thing as I write cause I feel like I talk to myself all the freaking time. Maybe that's normal, actually. Did anyone define normal yet? I highly doubt that. Oh look, I got off topic again...

So here I am in St. Louis, staying with a friend. I decided tonight that I would try to get her hooked on MST3K. Granted, I didn't expect her to become obsessed with it like I am, but I thought she would enjoy it.

I didn't realize she was going to fall asleep through it.

I don't know if it was because of the episode I showed her (it was Rocketship X-M because I felt like it explained the show fairly well - I mean, it is the first episode with TV's Frank...) or if it was because we had a packed day (we went to Fitz's for lunch, went to the zoo, and drove around the Arch - we would've walked, but the roads were closed due to flooding...). All I know is, she laughed some and then passed out.

So while she's sleeping, and I'm trying to decide if I want to sleep, I'm blogging and keeping tabs on my perfered forum.

I'm really a nerd, aren't I. And please don't answer that.

I guess I'm going to try to sleep now. Oh wait, my iPod is still charging - I wore the battery down a ton the past few days. That's one thing I'm really good at: forgetting to charge my electronics until the last minute. Phone and iPod alike get neglected until the battery is nearly dead. I think the only thing I do charge regularly is my computer, and that's just cause I'm on it so much.

Alright, I've rambled enough for the evening. I really do go off topic easily, don't I? I think it must just be my nature. What are you going to do, right?

Have a great night, Cyberland Readers, and I will write again soon.

Remind Me Again Why I Title These Updates?

Let's face it, my cyberland readers. Whenever I title my blog updates, I never stay in context to said title. My brain can't handle staying on topic for more than like five minutes.

I blame school. Everytime I write a paper for class, I have to stay on topic. Which isn't necessarily bad, but because of that, I feel like my free writing doesn't have to stay on topic, so I don't force myself to.

So I'm being creative and different, and not really using descriptive titles. Like now. It has nothing to do with the fact that I am perpetually tired and chronically lazy for the summer. Nope, doesn't play a part one bit.

Speaking of which, working this 5 am shift is crazy! I get up at 4 so that I have time to eat something and get ready for work, and then my day is off and running. I have discovered that I pass out now before 10:30 every night, and my body naturally wakes me up between 4 and 7 in the morning.

I have never been one for sleeping in, just cause since starting school last summer, I've always had early morning classes. So I guess my body just adjusts itself. Which could be weird, but I'm going to go with it.

Another random thing - I love fanfiction. I love reading it, and I love writing it. This week's contest on my favorite forum is to write a skit involving Pearl being stuck with the other characters (in my case, basically just Mike and Crow). I know, right? How fun is that? I love to do that with characters, mainly for my own enjoyment at watching them squirm.

The prize, though, is totally off the hook, so to speak. The gentleman who is hosting this week is married to the one and only Mary Jo Pehl. Mary Jo Pehl, for those who don't know, is the woman who played Pearl Forrester in the Sci-Fi era of MST3K (I may have talked about this, but Pearl and Brain Guy are the only reasons I have to watch those episodes, cause they are awesome! :D). She's also the only female riffer with CT, which automatically makes her awesome in my books.

(For a while, I was the only female player in my improv group, until Stacy came along and we started ganging up on the guys. It's tough sometimes, but fun. Anyone who can play with a bunch of men has my respect. )

So anyway, the prize for the winner is the newest CT DVD autographed and personalized by the Titans themselves. Which is incredible.

A fun contest, a fun prize, and an excuse to write AU fanfiction? I am so there.

So I wrote up my entry, and got it submitted. I'm only a little nervous because it was the first entry, it turned out fairly long, and I wrote it in script format. I generally don't do script format because I just don't like the style; third person narrative gives me so much more control over what the reader experiences. Plus, I chose to leave Mike on the SOL, and I generally don't watch a lot of Mike episodes, so I'm not convinced I got his personality right...

But it was an excuse to write all day pretty much, and I really enjoyed taking my idea and running with it. It was one of those where it pretty much wrote itself, and the characters ran with it. And even if I don't win, I have now contributed to the small fanfiction kingdom for MST3K. As soon as the contest is over, I'm going to upload it to fanfiction.net.

And that has been my day so far. It's almost 10 and I'm wiped, but hey - tomorrow is a holiday. My dad is home, and I don't have to work either, so my family and I are talking about doing something. Of course, dad has to take the car to get the oil changed, so we'll see how the day progresses...

Until the next time, Cyberland.

I Totally Lied

So, sounding like an ass in my head apparently means I am accepted. And while I don't fully understand the weird initiation rituals of my favorite forum, I'm not going to question it.

A member on there has decided that I need to change my username, and has set up a poll so that people can vote on what it should be. It cracks the living daylights out of me. I like feeling accepted, so now my previous blog just looks like a bunch of bitching.

Which, if we are going to be honest, it was. I was having an off day, what can I say?

On a separate note, I just bought two new MST3K episodes for my iPod: Monster a Go-Go and the Giant Gila Monster. I figure, new entertainment for my trip in a few weeks, right?

So, that's the random blog for today. I'm tired, cause I've been up since 4, so I don't know if the shortness made sense, but there it is.

The Week of Finals

Nuff said.

Oh, and it's my last week working at Sylvan.

So, don't expect blogging in depth until next week.

Or the week after.

I need proper recovery time.

And time to watch CT and MST3K and Star Trek.

Ok, that is all.

You may go back to your life now.

Thanks.

I've Been Riding Out the Storm...

...And I think I can see a light in the clouds. Finally.

So I got the 95 on my paper and brought up my grade to an 80. That's a good start. The math final doesn't seem like it's going to be too horrible, but I'm still going to study like there is no tommorrow. The bio final is daunting, but I'll survive.

My last day of work at my current job is May 8th, which is next Saturday. I feel like I am on the right track. Today, I got the rest of my paperwork filled out at my new place and the rest of my uniform. The employees there are all really excited to have me, and were already starting to include me in their joking, even as I was filling out my paperwork.

And I officially have the title of "Junior Bacon Rodeo" on my MST3K forum that I'm on. I found out that titles like that are only given by moderators when they feel you have earned one. I think I know which administrator gave me mine, as his title says "Bacon is My Copilot" and he asked me to be his bacon disciple.

Things are finally working out. I know the next week or so is going to be rough, just because of the finals and leaving Sylvan and starting my new job, but I feel confident that I am on the right track.

The sun shining through the clouds really is nice. And hey, even though it's still drizzling, I think I can see a rainbow.

How's that for cheesey?

~Meaghan

P.S. - When I finish this semester, I'm having a MST3K marathon. I may even throw in my CT DVD to shake it up. Nevertheless, it's going to be awesome. And I'll have survived one whole year at college, which is pretty incredible too.

It's Been a While, Hasn't It?

And even though it has been what feels like forever since I had anything of interest to blog about, this is going to be short cause it's after 10 and I have a bio test tomorrow... (I know, whoever heard of a teenager who goes to bed before midnight? Crazy!)

My absence from blogging can be directly related to the fact that I have had an increase of stress the past week or two. Mainly, this evil thing called "Finals". I really want to find the person who created that word and punch them in the flippin nose. I am not kidding. I am generally a non-violent individual, but finals drive me to the point of crazed frenzies not unlike that of a group of sharks smelling blood in their general vacinity. Yeah, it's that bad.

That being said, you would think I would actually study. But, uh, no. Apparently I do fit the sterotype of college kids not studying for tests. Because I'd rather be doing other things, like watching "Star Trek" and planning to take over the world. (You thought only crazy people did that? Ha. When I take over the world, it will prove that the nerds truly trump everyone. I don't know what I'm going to do when I take over the world, though - I haven't gotten that far yet...)

Um, so yeah. I have a major paper due next Tuesday that is still in the note taking stage, math homework in various stages of done-ness, and a bio test tomorrow that I'm pretty sure I'm going to do well on, but I can't think like that cause whenever I think I do well on something, I bomb it. (Murphy's law? Maybe...)

I think I'm going to change my major. No more Biology teaching. I'm looking more to primary education instead. Bring on the elementary kiddies.

Ok, that's all. I'm tired and want to go to bed. And I want to get everything done tomorrow so I can go to improv without feeling overwhelmed. Cause I feel so overwhelmed that I might just cry.

Thank goodness I have outlets. Sites I go to when I'm bored or stressed that I recommend? http://forestcrow.proboards.com/ (MST3K related community, very very nice people), http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_startrek (Star Trek related community, nice people), http://www.cinematictitanic.com/, and http://theoatmeal.com/ to name a few. If you go to any like that and there's a birdgirl90, chances are that's me. I tend to be shy posting, but I love seeing what other people post....

Okay, I'll try to blog later, I really need to go to bed now. I seriously doubt any of this made sense anyway, so if you made it this far, I apologize for rambling and stuff.

Later.

Crow Should Have a Separate Keypad, or the Why I Hate Making Spread Sheets blog

Before anyone gets confused, remember from an earlier blog: I had to name my new computer when I got it up and running. I named it Crow. I am not talking about a black bird that eats random shit off the side of the road or about the fun little bot from MST3K. I am talking about my laptop.

So anyway, today I had to make these spread sheets and graphs for biology. I literally spent almost three hours working on it and it is still not done. What really made it painful was that I had over 60 data points for each experiment (six experiments all together) and each one had to be typed in by hand.

Do you know how friggin hard that is without a separate number pad?? It was the most tedious and painful thing I have done this week.

At least I burned off the calories from the cherry poptart I consumed while doing it, right?

Here's my proposition: all laptops should come with a separate number pad like a regular computer keyboard has. It wouldn't kill the companies to do that, would it? No, it wouldn't. That's my complaint for the day.

I have to go to work in like five minutes, so here's a brief overview of the rest of my Wed.

I have a mountain of homework to do still, so I'm going to be up doing that tonight when I get home. I also will be doing part of it at work. We'll see how much I get done.

I have been hitting this group called Warp 11 pretty hard. Anyone heard of them? They're a Star Trek tribute band, and I for some reason love them. My favorite songs by them are "Songs for People Who Never Watch Star Trek" and "Old Country Doctor (the Ballad of Bones)". You should look them up if you haven't heard of them.

Okay, I gotta run. I'll blog tomorrow if I get the chance.

~Meaghan

P.S. - I won a contest at the MST3K board I'm on and my DVDs are going to get here today. I am so excited; it's like extra motivation to get stuff done so I can goof!

Yep, I Should Most Definitely Be In Bed Now...

...why on earth do you ask?

Is it because you know I am about to fill this blog with more useless information than the back of a cereal box or because you can sense through the screens separating us that I am fully exhausted to the point of hyperness?

Whatever your reason, here is my blog post for the day.

I have calculated that in order for me to make paying $63 for a pair of roller skates count for anything, I have to use them at least 10 more times. 10, I tell you! I can almost guarentee that my derby dreams are dashed, but for the love of all that is holy, I had better know how to skate by the end of the 10 + times. Seriously. Or else I am not going to be a happy camper, so to speak.

On a completely other tangent, I am debating about trying RiffTrax. For those who do not know what RiffTrax is, I'll give you a brief synopsis.

Basically, while Joel Hodgson and his gang has their project of Cinematic Titanic, Mike Nelson got together with Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett(e) (I said I was tired, that means spelling and grammer have gone to hell for the night. Humor me...) and formed RiffTrax, which is a thing where you can buy an audio commentary full of riffing for a ton of modern movies.

Here's the thing:

I like my stuff to all come together. If I'm going to pay money for someone riffing my movie for me, I don't mind paying the extra to have the movie come with it. I just feel like it's an incomplete product.

But I'm still debating about trying it. Why? Because the little 10 minute blurb on youtube of the three of them riffing Twilight was freaking fantastic. (I love those books, but that movie was just asking to be riffed...) And because they're funny, and because I missed the Mike/Joel debates so I can like them both. And because I love Brain Guy. That's why.

Still, it's all just a passing thought. It takes me forever to agonize over ordering things online and stuff, so we shall see if I actually go anywhere with it.

Okay, now the hyperness is gone. I am going to bed. Good luck trying to make sense of this post, cyberland, good luck.

Random Blog: "The Alien Factor" Review, Roller Skating Drama, and More Inside!

Hey Cyberland readers.

This blog is kind of a jumble of things, mainly cause I feel too tired to write multiple blogs today and lable them correctly.

First off, my review of Cinematic Titanic's "The Alien Factor".

I thought it was hilarious. The movie itself cracked me up just because it seemed like the directors were just putting things together to fill the film. I haven't seen such padding outside of "Sidehackers". And the ending - WTF? I laughed at how random it ended.

And then you factor in the riffing. It's a live DVD, so we can actually see the faces of the riffers. I have to be honest: it was a lot of fun being able to see everyone crack up at each others jokes. The audience was fun too; it's always a lot more fun to share laughs with others than just by yourself. The riffs were spot on and all the ones I understood were hilarious. I can't compare it to MST3K cause they are different things, but I thought this may have been almost funnier.

The language and joke lines, too, were a little more mature. Maybe it's cause I live in the gutter anyway, but I liked that to an extent. It never got to the point of being tasteless (such as in an R movie were everyone drops the F-bomb every five minutes); they basically were echoing sentiments I had about the movie, and it was great. I highly recommend it.

Second order of business: I suck at roller skating.

Roller skating looks so easy on TV and in the movies (like "Whip It") and when everyone else is doing it. I, however, can't do it to save my life. Last weekend my mom held me for ten minutes in a parking lot while I tried to get the guts up do it myself. Tonight, my dad walked me around the apartments and tried to get me to do it on my own. (Yes, both of my parents are awesome, thanks for asking.)

I don't get why I'm having such trouble with it. I can't tell if it's because I've been on rocky surfaces, have a terrible fear of falling, can't find my center of balance, or what. It's a little frusterating. I really want to get good (hence why I keep trying) so I can do roller derby, but I think those dreams are going to be on pause for a while.

Finally, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science is amazing. My mom, sister, and I spent 6 hours there today. That has to be like a record or something. And we still didn't see everything! If you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. It's great.

Okay, that's it. I am wiped out.

Until next time,

~Meaghan

Previously on "All the Stars and Boulevards"...

Hello cyberland readers, and welcome to yet another interesting blog post about the ongoings of the young woman named Meaghan.
In our last post, we left our heroine debating the pronunciation of the word "hai". What is she going to do now?

Okay, forget the cheesy opening. In all reality, I am at school, blogging on one of the computers in the library, drinking an orange soda, dreading the fact that I have a mountain of homework assigned and it's only Tuesday. Yep, it's that exciting around here.

However, despite the fact that school is getting down to the wire and I still don't feel quite on top of it, here are some high points for my week/day:

1. I'm having BBQ for lunch.

For those who do not know, I am originally from the St. Louis, MO region, where St. Louis style ribs are a way of life and there are several good BBQ joints to choose from. Here in Colorado, though, the BBQ pickins are slim. Which is odd, because you would think that Colorado, being ranching territory, would have really good, abundant BBQ. Instead, it's more of a Mexican food place. Today, though, my friend Jen and I are leaving campus and heading to Dickies (is that how it's spelled?) for some *hopefully* good BBQ.

2. I don't have to work today.

This is another big highlight for today. I know I complain about work and whatnot, but I really do for the most part like my job. That being said, I love not having to go in on days when I've just put in a full day at school. Like today, when morning came waay too early and math was a drudge. It means that instead, I can use that time to catch up on homework and chores, and that I can relax a bit.

3. There is Improv tonight.

I love improv. I love that I have somewhere I can go where everyone gets my sense of humor, where the laughs are abundant and sincere, and where I don't have to worry for an hour about not having a filter between my brain and my mouth. It is such a rewarding thing. And the people are fantastic, and it's just a lot of fun.

4. I am getting two DVD shipments this week.

That's right. I ordered some more MST3K DVDs from a guy on the MST3K forum I'm a member of and those should be coming in on Wed. if everything works out. I am so ready for "Fugitive Alien", you honestly have no idea. And I ordered a DVD from Cinematic Titanic that should also be coming in this week (see previous blogs for more information). Bring on "the Alien Factor". So it's going to be great, and if I get everything in a good place before they come in, I can spend my weekend watching them all.

5. I'm going to the museum on Friday.

This is another big one. My mom and sister both went last time and said it was fantastic. I get to go this time. I am so thrilled, you have no idea, Cyberland readers...Dinosaurs, birds, mummies - it is going to be great!

I think that sums up the happy part of the week. I really have no complaints about how quiet everything is. In fact, I think my only complaint is that it's supposed to snow this week. I really wish it would rain instead, but oh well. The sun is shining today, I'm having a pretty good day, and as said before, there is BBQ for lunch.

I hope you are all having a great afternoon. Go get something good for lunch.

Ordering Online No Longer Sucks, or How I Finally Ordered My Cinematic Titanic DVD

It worked. It finally worked.

I have been wanting a Cinematic Titanic DVD for a very long while now. I mean, I rediscovered MST3K last fall break and fell in love with Joel and the bots. When I found out Joel Hodgson and the rest were doing this thing called Cinematic Titanic, I wanted to see for myself if it was as good as MST3K is.

The problem? While MST3K is at the library, Best Buy, and all over youtube, Cinematic Titanic is available only from the online site, www.cinematictitanic.com .

Buying stuff online is slightly scary cause you never know how secure things are. After two months of debate, I attempted to order. You may remember the rant I threw because I couldn't get my debit card to work. I know that technology is hit or miss at best, but it still irritated me.

So I didn't try to order again and went on with my life.

Until today. Today, I decided that it was time to try again. If I got an AVS error again, I was going to give up for good on it and wait until Mr. Hodgson started selling commercially in stores. If not, well, I was going to do a happy dance and wait until my DVD came.

Lo and behold, it worked. I got the conformation page, the conformation email, the order number, etc. I just about jumped up and down in glee. Well, except for the fact that I'm fairly sure my mom wouldn't have appreciated it.

Anyway, it worked. I really do recant all my previous bitching - the internet has flaws and I get that. All I have to do is wait until it gets here so I can watch it and see if it's as good as MST3K.

Now, if I could only get my pack of M&M's open...

I Finally Caved and Joined Twitter...

I know, I know. It's just like Facebook and all the rest: I say I'm not going to do it cause I'm all about non-conforming and crap, and then I go and join. And I like it.

I know nothing about Twitter except that it allows me to stal- I mean follow my favorite celebrities. Oh, and it gives me another place to complain or whatever, and to shamelessly push this blog. Oh yes, I am going to get the viewer count up on this if it kills me.

So, school is going, and I have, yet again, another mountain of homework for this week, and instead of doing any of it, I joined Twitter and am now currently blogging about it. I am such a good procrastinator, I could make a career out of it. No joke at all. Although, I think I might get bored not doing anything stimulating with my life...

I don't know how I feel about Twitter. Give me a week and I will let you know how it's working out for me. Geez, it sounds like I'm breaking in a new pair of shoes or something...

On other fun and exciting news, I got my Bio test grade posted. I somehow passed with a B on it, which is really remarkable considering that I missed one class period due to not feeling well and that I really had no idea what was going on. My overall grade in the class is hovering around an 80%, which is again fairly remarkable because the average they expect from the class is a C or lower. Still, it's low compared to what I'm used to, but I think I'm going to choose to not worry about it. My professor has assured me that it is bound to get more interesting from here on out, mainly because we are done looking at the functions of cells.

If I ever have to learn about the organelles inside plant and animal cells again, I think I'm going to run out of the room screaming and crying at the same time.

Today, among joining Twitter, I also spent a good part of the morning putting various songs they did on MST3K onto my iPod. My favorites by far are the Godzilla Geneology Bop and the Pleasant Journey. I really like the Fugitive Alien Medley and the Hike Up Your Pants song, but I haven't found those on audio file yet...

If you haven't figured it out by now, this is probably a good time to tell you that I am, in fact, a nerd. Not a full-fledged, Big Bang Theory type (yet), but a nerd of sorts. I mean, I try to do well in school, I can quote various things such as Star Trek, Watchmen, and the Lord of the Rings, and I have taught myself one phrase in Vulcan. And I have Star Trek ska bands that I occasionally listen to (Nerf Hender, people, Nerf Hender...).

After the excitment of putting MST3K music on my iPod, my little sister Katie and I walked over to the local 7-11 to get food. I love their taquitos - terrible for you, but oh so good.

So anyway, this has gone on waaay too long, and I am rambling like you would not believe. I better stop while I'm at least somewhat ahead...

Until next time, Cyberland Readers,

~Meaghan

Farewell, GPA, It's Been Great...

That's right. I just completely and totally bombed (as in bad and not good) my math test. I know it.

I know a lot of people will tell you that if you feel you did really bad, in actuality you probably did better, but I'm not buying it today. Something about not being able to find the horizontal asymptote or being able to graph based on numbers selected along a specific interval tells me that I failed.

Seriously, I went through before I turned in the test and calculated point value based on the ones I know I got right and the results were not promising. At worst I got a 50%; at best it went up to a 60%. Granted, this is the class that I have a 97% in right now, but still. I am known for being an overachiever, someone who actually cares about their grades (mainly cause I pay for school myself).

This coupled with my Biology grade shows that everyone was wrong in their assement of me as a student. (My bio grade is a very low 82 %, but let's not speak of that, shall we?)

I think my problem this semester is that I have been going to school since May, and am now finally burned out. I mean, there are only so many papers you can write before you stand up, scattering papers or the laptop or whatever, throw your arms in the air and shout "ENOUGH!!!!" *

*this may be overkill, but you catch my drift...

Oh well. I finished summer semester with a 4.0 GPA; last semester I had a 3.67. With any luck, I can work my ass off and try to pull out this semester. I think that as long as it's not a 2.0, I'm not going to worry about it.

And summer is looking better by the hour...

On other notes, I recently discovered the movie "Whip It" with Ellen Page in it. I had read the book it was based on years ago, and I have to say the movie is now one of my favorites.

As soon as my skates get here, I can see if I have what it takes to do roller derby. I'm gunning for roller derby queen in 2011/2012. Woot!

I'm trying to think if there is anything else exciting going on. I'm think about changing jobs for something a little more challenging and higher pay, but I have to wait until after our vacation in June. Which is fine.

I joined the Cinematic Titanic forum. I take back all of my previous bitching about them; I don't know why ordering DVDs was such a pain, but I think I'm going to try again down the road. (I'm broke right now ): )

Okay, well that's it. I'm just wasting time in the computer lab before my next test.

Until next time, dear Cyberland Readers,

~Meaghan

I Finally Bought a New Laptop....

...and his name is Crow. Crow T. Robot, as a matter of fact.

Okay, so I finally got around to buying a new laptop. I got this one at Best Buy for a steal pretty much and it's awesome. It's a Toshiba Satellite, and actually this is the second one. The first one lasted all of five minutes before it crashed from an internal error, forcing me to take it back to Best Buy for an exchange. Now that it works, though, I absolutely love it.

I think the funniest thing about it is that when it first started up, it asked me for my username and then it asked me to name my computer. At first I was like "what the heck is a good name for a computer?" and drew a complete blank. And then it hit me - why not name it after my favorite robot of all time?

And so my computer's name is Crow T. Robot after Crow T. Robot of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame, and I will be referring to him as Crow from here on out.

And since this is my blog and I can, I would like to point out that this is named after Trace Beaulieu's Crow and not Bill Corbett's Crow. To anyone not knowing the differences, Trace's Crow is a lot more innocent, naive, and just plain sweet. Bill's Crow is more bitter and vindictive almost, cynical if you will. I hate that. I love Trace's Crow and wish that, were he real, I could adopt him. *Climbs off of soap box*

What makes this new computer so great? It burns CDs/DVDs, plays CDs and DVDs (which is good cause I love watching movies on my computer), runs the internet, has a bulletine board feature, is sleek in design (at least to me), and has a waaaay bigger memory and hard drive than my old one so that my iTunes won't overpower it.

The downsides? Trying to get all of my crap from my old computer transfered onto Crow. It sucks.

Other than that, I love it.

Okay, that's today's super awesome blog update. I will update again soon.

I Love Dancing

Even if I do have two left feet.

Last Sunday night, two of my gal pals and I went to this place called Cowboys. It's a bar (no, I'm not 21; yes, it was all ages night; no, I did not get wasted off of my Coke), but it's a cowboy bar. There's like a big dance arena and pool tables and karaoke, and it was soo much fun.

We ended up not getting back home until like 2:30 in the morning.

Of course we did the karaoke - Johnny Cash was rolling in his grave, I can almost guarentee it - and we played pool. I learned how to line dance, two-step, and kinda how to swing. And, a few guys asked me to dance, which was fun. All in all a good time.

I have to say, though, that it is not something I can do every night or week. I am not cut out to party all the time. But once in a while....

Okay, that's about all I got. I ordered some DVDs of MST3K from this guy online and I should be getting those today or tomorrow. Still haven't re-tried Cinematic Titanic - I'm kinda hesitant to. But we shall see. Maybe in a few months.

Until the next time, Cyberland, keep writing and reading.

I Should Be Doing Homework Right Now...

At least I can admit that I should be doing something other than what I'm doing. At least I can somehow convince myself that I am not being "lazy" but rather a typical college student.

Okay, well, at least I recognize that my biology homework is sitting right next to me, not six inches away, waiting to be done.

Oh, and that the math homework is due Tuesday and I have yet to start it.

Yeah. Who am I kidding? I am screwed.

But, I don't think I actually care right now.

Anyway...

So, I'm dog sitting for my neighbor this weekend. This is the neighbor who lives in the building next door (my family lives in an apartment complex) and who had a copy of her home key made for me to keep permanently. I babysit her five year old son sometimes, and sometimes, like this weekend, I dog sit.

Flash is the dog's name, and she cracks the living daylight out of me. I go over there about four times a day to play with her, feed her, take her out, etc. Today, I went over when I got off of work and she greeted me at the door with her favorite squeaky toy in mouth, ready to go out into the snow.

She also knows where the treats are.

Of course, she also gets to the point where she can take me or leave me. I think she's ready for my neighbor to be home. Apparently I am a decent substitute, but we all know that a substitute is no permanent solution.

Okay, well that's all. I just didn't want to do homework, so I decided to blog.

Oh! A side note of interest: Joel Hodgson, creator and first host of MST3K as well as riffer with Cinematic Titanic, turns 50 today. Happy birthday, Mr. Hodgson, should you ever discover and read this. You have brought laughter to this college girl's time of stress. Cheers.

Alright. I'll talk to you cyberland people again soon.

Vancouver Called, They Want Their Snow Back.

So can we send it back already? I mean, I know it's Colorado, and I know it's the middle of February, and I know this is how it's going to be for a while, but seriously? Snow is evil. Sure, it looks pretty and whatever, but as soon as you go out into it, it attacks you with a passive/agressive attitude, melting into your socks and hair and freezing up your wiperblades. I am done.

And I may add that the sun is shining while it is still snowing. Gah.

Anyway. This has been a very, very eventful week, my dear Cyberland readers. Let us begin...

First of all, the Saints won the Superbowl in a fantastic game that even had me (the non sport enthusiast) on the edge of my chair. So that was awesome.

I finally got over pink eye.

My sister got grounded for life and I was the one who discovered her doing the things that got her there. I am scarred for life.

And I got a letter in the mail.

So you remember a while back I wrote a letter to the MST3K fanclub thing, just to see if it was still in use? Well, just when I was thinking it must have gone to some little old lady and that I was never going to get my awesome Sudoku page with Crow and Tom Servo drawn on it back, I got a letter in the mail.

From Jim Mallon and Best Brains Inc. And it's a hand written letter in Sharpie, on stationary with Crow and Tom Servo watermarked on it, and he not only spelled my name right, but was so excited to get my letter. He said that my letter was "fun to recieve and read".

Oh. My. God.

I just about died. And I got a free bumper sticker and window cling. As soon as I show my letter to my improv guys, who were the ones to get me re-into MST3K, I am going to freaking frame it.

How cool is that?????!?!?!?!?!

Ahem. Anyway.

Oh, and I got approved to do my paper on Transgenic Crops. It looks to be promising.

And I went and saw the play I quit, "Little Women". It was fantastic and had me in tears.

Okay, that's all.

Seriously. A return letter from Best Brains Inc. I can die happy, I think. This is the best fandom ever. EVER. I love MST3K. Best show ever.

Double Pink Eye and Other Thoughts

It has happened again. I have contracted pink eye for the second time in four months. And this time, it's in both eyes.

Can I just tell you how much that sucks? I not only looked like a red-eyed freak of nature (the eye drops have cleared it up quite a bit), but both of my eyes burn and itch like there is no tomorrow. And I can't even scratch them, cause that makes it spread worse!

I think it's cause I work with kids. Ever since I started working at Sylvan, I have become more prone to "kid" sickness - strep throat, pink eye, the sniffles, etc. It is not fun. But on the positive side, I am in fact building up immunities without realizing it. So by the time I become a teacher, I should be totally protected against everything, right?

This week I had my first Biology test. I feel lousy about it. Granted, I waited till like two days before the test to study, but I studied the stuff really hard. The test was so draining. I felt tired and old when it was all said and done.

The test grade has yet to be posted, but the homework and pre lab are graded and posted - I aced both of them. Maybe there is hope for this test grade. Fingers crossed.

And the dreaded Valentine's Day is approaching. I generally am against it because a) I'm almost 20 and still single, b) it's a stupid marketing ploy to spend money and feel lousy about not being in love, and c) it's Saint Valentine's Day, meaning the guy DIED a horrible bloody death and we are buying chocolate to celebrate it.

Society is messed up, if I may say so myself.

But it's going to be okay because my improv group has been asked to do a few skits for a couple of Sunday school classes up at church on Valentine's Day. That is going to be fun.

And I think that is about it. I'm rooting for the Saints to win the Superbowl, if anyone cares. I don't generally watch football or any sport for that matter ( I like bowling, bullriding, ice skating, and the dirty hockey matches), but I'm actually pretty excited about the game tomorrow.

Okay, I've rambled enough. I'm going back to "Wild Rebels" MST3K version. I'll write again to let you all know how my test grade is.

Here's a snippet from what I'm watching ("Wild Rebels Cereal"):

It's so freaking catchy, I sing it at random. No joke - goes up with the "Pleasant Journey" song they do from "The Girl in Lovers Lane" :

I know all the words, because I am just that cool. : )

Until the next time, Cyberland readers,

TGIF

Oh yeah, it's finally Friday! This whole week has felt so flippin long, I seriously thought I was having a series of Mondays. (For anyone who has never had a week of days that all feel like Monday, consider yourself lucky.)

So what am I doing today? Not homework. Not even going to think about homework - wait, I guess I just did. I just don't want to do it today. In fact, I don't really want to do anything today but goof. Or waste time.

Normally, I hate feeling unproductive, but today I think it's okay. Like, it's been a rough and long week and so I am not going to waste or use my brain cells today to make up for it.

Or something like that.

Maybe I'll change my blog layout. That could be exciting. Or I could paint my nails purple; I've been meaning to do that for a while. Or I could watch episodes of MST3K or Kitchen Confidential, which are my two favorite things to watch right now. Or I could try going back to the book I'm attempting to read, "Gravity's Rainbow" by Thomas Pynchon. (It has completely confused me and I'm only on page 54...)

Or I could just sit here, eat my ice-cream, and blog to you, my dear cyberland readers. The possibilities really are endless.

As long as it doesn't involve math or bio.

Until the next blog posting,
